Wayne Cutler presents - Salsa & Mambo
Book Your Spot For The Workshop And BBQ
Tickets are $30 per person and are available online. All guests are invited to a BYO BBQ lunch after the workshop.
Salsa is a Latin style dance that hails from the Caribbean with moves deriving other Latin dances such as Cuban Son, Cha Cha Cha, and even Mambo. Like many Latin American dances the Salsa has had many variations over the past 90-100 years. The style which Salsa is known as today originated in the 1970's in New York. Featuring a very Rumba-esk rhythm of dancing 3 beats out of every 4 many Rumba moves are compatible with Salsa despite Salsa being danced at nearly twice the speed.
Mambo originated in Cuba in the 1930's and was invented by the native Cuban musician and composer Arsenio Rodríguez. However, it wasn't until the late 1940's when figures like Pérez Prado and Benny Moré made it popular in Cuba, Mexico City, and New York. Mambo is a fast and spicy dance characterized by strong Cuban motion, staccato movement and expression of rhythm through the body. The dancer holds on counts 1 and break on count 2. Mambo also features press lines, many swivels and spins.
Wayne Cutler, owner of Cutler's Dance Club, will take you through the basics of Salsa and Mambo in this intensive 2 hour Latin American session. Wayne will show you how to convert Rumba and Cha Cha Cha steps into their Salsa and Mambo cousins, and have you up and dancing in no time. If you love dancing Latin, having fun, and learning new things in a friendly social atmosphere, then this workshop is for you.
Long-Steps would like to extend an invitation to all our workshop students to join us for a BBQ after the workshop has concluded. The BBQ will be held (weather permitting) on the public BBQ's next to the Lenah Valley Community Hall. We will designate a few cooks on the day, but the BBQ will be BYO food and drink. We'll provide paper plates, chopping boards, and some knives for chopping onions and other good ol' Aussie BBQ staples.
